Poetry, the most exciting type of writing there is (well, in my opinion). We can be creative. We do not have to follow all of the rules of grammar. We can get our point across in a whimsical way. Today we listened to poems from Nikki Giovanni's, Hip Hop Speaks to Children: A Celebration of Poetry with a Beat . We created mental images on paper and decided what the message or main idea was within each poem. Here was one of our favorites. What do you think the author wants us to understand? My favorite poet is Emily Dickenson. She writes a lot about nature. She inspires me. You should check out her poetry!

My favoite poet is Shel Silverstein.In 2nd grade,the library had three Shel Silverstein,but in 3rd grade,they were gone.

I love poetry! It is so awesome. I am glad that you teach poetry because it might seem weird that a kid actually likes poetry because I am the kind of kid that loves poetry very much. I know that it is weird right? It is certainly for me. I dont understand why I like it so much. I wish I did know why?
